This course examines the role food plays in our social life using it as a lens to examine some of the most important issues in our society: health the environment social inequality politics globalization gender and culture. Through each of these factors that shape our lives we will examine what the food we eat says about us and the important social conditions that determine what we eat. We will examine the complex social relationships that lie behind our processes of food production our own relationships to food and global systems of power that influence our daily lives.
